ex·hi·bi·tion·ist

[ek-suh-bish-uh-nist]
–noun
1. a person who behaves in ways intended to attract attention or display his or her powers, personality, etc.

I think it's high time, don't you?

Let me introduce myself:

My name is Tasha Ong.
I am a Brunei citizen but left to study in Singapore, England and America when I was eight.
Since, I come back to Brunei several times a year to visit my family.

I have five cameras that work and four vintage cameras that don't (brownie, two rolleiflex and one that I bought in salvation army in america for two US dollars).

I like staging bizarre scenes and creating an atmosphere with studio lighting.

Once I climbed through a hole in a cage in an abandoned railway station in the middle of the night in the middle of winter for a photoshoot.

I just finished a masters degree in photography in Paris and am currently working as a freelance photographer and studying French.

I have recently dipped my feet in the Brunei blogosphere and am surprised and encouraged by how much passion, talent and interest there is out there in Brunei for photography and the arts in general.

I am organising a PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION IN BRUNEI in June 2010.

The idea as it stands now:

To find sponsorship for an exhibition of five or more Bruneian photographers around a single theme: "The Green Heart of Borneo"

Although some of you may think that this theme seems unoriginal, the exhibition takes as its primary goal the promotion of the arts and expression through the arts in Brunei. That said, the idea is that the participating photographers would take the theme and RUN WITH IT. I am looking for people to participate who are willing and able to take risks and experiment and not be afraid to come up with something truly original.

The support (financial or otherwise) for the exhibition will hopefully be linked with the promotion of tourism in Brunei and linked to the development of other areas of culture and industry.

The planning for the exhibition is still in the preliminary stages, but I hope that this blog will keep a record of the progress that I make and provide an open forum for anyone in Brunei who loves photography as much as I do and wants to get involved.

Brunei has so many talented artists and I think it is time that they were given an opportunity to show themselves. Please feel free to use this blog as an open forum for discussions related to the planning of an exhibition like this, or a discussion of the arts in Brunei in general.
